Busting Vegas Myths Part 1

Busting Vegas Myths Part 1

Everyone assumes that because Vegas is known as Sin City, you can order a prostitute, and it’s legal.

The reality is that there are a lot of myths about that – and if you get involved in prostitution while in Las Vegas, you can encounter fines and even jail.

Let’s go ahead and bust some of these myths together, shall we?

For starters,

there are those guys that will walk up and down the Strip handing out prostitute pics. You’ve likely seen them before on public streets. They have a hot girl on the front and a phone number to call on the back. Since they’re handing them out in broad daylight, engaging in prostitution must be legal, right?

Wrong.

It’s not illegal to hand out those pics and cards. However, it is illegal to be a prostitute or use their services while in Clark County (where Vegas is located) and other counties in Nevada. Any time you pay for sex while in Vegas, it’s illegal.

Wait, is prostitution legal in Nevada or not?

It’s confusing, we know. Here’s the thing. Prostitution in Nevada, United States is only legal in certain counties, and the rules vary by county. There are 10 of the 17 counties where prostitution is legal across the state. Once the population gets to be too high, it’s not legal.

Further, if you do visit one of those counties, it’s only legal inside of a licensed brothel. That means that you have to be careful about where you decide to go for sex (if you really decide that paying for sex is worth the drive outside of Vegas city limits).

The closest place to find brothels in Nevada is going to be Pahrump, which is over an hour away.

Where is prostitution legal? Well, there are 10 counties, like we mentioned before:

  • Elko
  • Esmeralda
  • Humboldt
  • Lander
  • Lyon
  • Mineral
  • Nye
  • Storey
  • White Pine
  • Churchill

Within each county, there’s at least one brothel (or cathouse, depending on the term that the establishment uses) where you’ll find plenty of prostitutes who have menus of services that you can choose from.

We know what you’re thinking…

there are hookers on the street and hanging out at bars all across Vegas. Are we SURE it’s not legal? We’re sure they’re breaking prostitution laws.

Most of the women don’t put it out there that they are sex workers. They’ll make a casual offer to you. Many will pretend that they’re into you. They’ll let you buy them a drink, flirt with you for a while, and then ask if you want to go up to your hotel room. Before anything happens, they’ll tell you their price for sexual services. At that point, they’re already in your room. But before you shell out some cash, remember that prostitution is illegal.

If you’re wondering what the charges are for prostitution, it depends on if you are a first-time offender or not. It’s generally charged as a misdemeanor and could be both a fine of $1,000 and up to six months in jail. Though, if you make the mistake two or three times, the charges are going to be considerably higher. NRS 201.354

Essentially, there are no red light districts in Las Vegas, and don’t think about hiring a prostitute on the Strip. There are legal, fun ways to enjoy yourself, but we’ll get to that…

Let’s get back to the question of where is prostitution legal?

Particularly if you are in Vegas, your best bet is to make the drive to Nye County, which is about an hour to an hour and a half away. You can visit the Chicken Ranch, Sheri’s Ranch, or even the Alien Cathouse.

You have some options on how to get there. Rent a car and make the drive, call an Uber or other rideshare, or take advantage of the brothel’s limo service (though you’ll still need your own ride back to town if you choose not to take advantage of what’s being offered).

Most brothels will have a list of girls who are going to be there for the night on their website. However, there’s no guarantee that they will be free upon your arrival, which is why reservations are often suggested if you have your eye on a particular girl.

Some brothels have special events, sports bars, and more where you can spend time and be surrounded by girls, offering a fun experience before you choose a girl to spend an hour or more with.

You can choose to “visit” with any of the girls there. They get regular health checks and they’ve all been extensively tested, so you don’t have to worry about catching anything. By the way, this is the reason why you should definitely choose legal prostitution if you decide to hire a prostitute when visiting a state where prostitution is legal. The brothels follow the highest safety standards for protecting the girls and you.

The services can include massages, various rooms, two-on-one options, and so much more. You can have your sex anyway you want, but the more you want, the more you’re going to pay.
